Introducing the Rainmaker Fellows Program
Today, we are announcing a call for applications to the Rainmaker Fellows Program, a new program for researchers, engineers, and technical practitioners to pursue rigorous, high-impact work related to precipitation enhancement and weather technology.
The fellowship is a three-month program designed for undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral researchers, as well as exceptional professionals working in relevant technical fields.
We are looking for applicants interested in scientific and engineering questions that are important to the development of effective, measurable, and scalable weather modification systems. Priority areas include:
- Machine learning and atmospheric modeling
- Weather radar
- Satellite sensing and remote sensing
- Hydrology and water resources
- Water economics
- Cloud microphysics
- In situ atmospheric sensing
- Drone platforms for collecting in-cloud and icing data
- Large-scale environmental and atmospheric intervention
We are especially interested in work that is empirically grounded, technically rigorous, and capable of improving how precipitation enhancement programs are forecasted, targeted, operated, and validated.
Fellows will work closely with Rainmaker researchers and engineers and engage with others across the company’s scientific and technical teams. Fellows will be expected to produce a substantial research or engineering output by the end of the program, such as a research paper, technical report, model, dataset, sensor prototype, or experimental result.
The fellowship is intended to provide participants with the opportunity to work on consequential scientific problems without requiring them to permanently leave their current academic or professional path. At the conclusion of the three-month program, fellows may return to their prior institution or position. Fellows who are interested in continuing their work at Rainmaker will also have the opportunity to interview for potential future full-time positions.
We welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds, including atmospheric science, meteorology, hydrology, economics, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, remote sensing, and related fields. We prioritize research ability, technical judgment, intellectual independence, and execution over specific credentials.
